CLIMATE BALANCE URGED AT THE ABC
Amanda Meade and Geoff Elliott from The Australian report on an amazing speech. Amazing that it should even need to be given.
"The chairman of the ABC, Maurice Newman, has told about 250 leading journalists, program-makers and managers at the ABC that the media had displayed "group-think" on the issue of climate change in a speech that led to a feisty exchange with senior journalists and forced managing director Mark Scott to try to smooth the waters."

TREASON IS A MATTER OF DATES
Walter Russell Mead at his blog site American Interest notes a change of tack by the New York Times.
"These days, it’s The New York Times that is redefining treason. Three weeks ago, anyone who pointed at the lack of public confidence in climate science was aiding and abetting those horrible climate ‘deniers.’ "
Now the Times let readers know something has gone badly wrong.

HYPERBOLE ERODES CREDIBILITY
In serious debates, nothing demolishes credibility as readily as inconsistency and exaggeration.
Many Australians, therefore, will find it baffling that six state governments are working off four different sets of figures for the sea-level rises they expect to be caused by climate change.

LYSENKOISM AND JAMES HANSEN
Professor Bob Carter published this article at Quadrant following, first an invitation by the ABC's The Drum for an article to offer an alternate view to Clive Hamilton's five part series, and their subsequent rejection of his offering.
"On June 23, 1988, a young and previously unknown NASA computer modeller, James Hansen, appeared before a United States Congressional hearing on climate change. On that occasion, Dr. Hansen used a graph to convince his listeners that late 20th century warming was taking place at an accelerated rate, which, it being a scorching summer's day in Washington, a glance out of the window appeared to confirm."

THE CLIMATE INDUSTRY WALL OF MONEY
Joanne Nova published an insightful article on the ABC's The Drum, in part to refute the five part series written by Clive Hamilton.
"Somehow the tables have turned. For all the smears of big money funding the “deniers”, the numbers reveal that the sceptics are actually the true grassroots campaigners, while Greenpeace defends Wall St. How times have changed. Sceptics are fighting a billion dollar industry aligned with a trillion dollar trading scheme."

TIME TO TURN THE ETS OFF
The Australian editorialises on the state of emissions trading legislation:
It looks like time for Kevin Rudd to consider turning off the emission trading scheme's political life support and accept it was too pure an idea for the dirty world of international politics.
